Our Dream
We, the men and women behind the Don Bosco Foundation for Sustainable Development, Inc. (DBFSDI), dream of empowered communities where people take responsible care of the life support systems of the Earth, living upon its fruits today without compromising our Home Planet's ability to support the needs of the future generations of humans. We dream of communities living a sound economy based of the integrity of ecology.
Our Threefold Task. For this task, we chose the farming communities as the as the locus of action, agriculture being a major contributor to the Planet's degradation and agriculture deeply touching and affecting the widest spheres of human life. Because agriculture is an encounter between Culture and Nature, between Mindsphere and Biosphere within the context of society, we take it upon ourselves to undertake the threefold mission of working for NATURE through facilitating the development of ecologically sound and sustainable agriculture systems among farming communities, for the HUMAN I through awakening of the human spirit from culture embedded in reductionist materialism and male domination, and for SOCIETY through addressing societal issues that brings about unsustainable development and injustice to both the Earth and humanity.
Our Core Program At the heart of all our programs is BIODYNAMIC AGRICULTURE and the underlying principles of holistic science that takes both matter and spirit, both the seen and the unseen, the named and the unnamed as fundamental facts of reality. It expands the principle of interconnectedness not only among the biotic communities of the Earth's biosphere but goes beyond geocentrism. Biodynamic agriculture expands ecology from the realm of the Earth to the Cosmos. Biodynamic agriculture seeks spiritual renewal in practical terms through living agriculture.
what principles and values guide us? Our Commitment.
This is our dream and to work for the fulfillment of this dream, we are committed to help bring about a transition from an anthropocentric to a biocentric norm of life, one that does not diminish the splendor of the life support systems of the Earth which are the modes of the awesome magnificence of the Divine. Beyond democracy, we are COMMITTED to BIOCRACY.
Our Guiding Principles.
The sustainability of our initiatives and approaches in working with the farming communities are measured by the seven (7) principles of sustainable development, namely:
- ecological soundness/ecological integrity
- economic viability
- holistic science
- appropriate technology
- social justice and equity
- cultural sensitivity and gender balance, and
- development of the human potential
Our Core Values.
Our organizational culture by which live our commitment commitment is imbued with the core values of participatory democracy, transparency and honesty, recognizing that all humans are in the process of evolution and have the capacity for the TRUE, the GOOD and the BEAUTIFUL. |
